Public Speaking & Speechwriting

Greg Ballard
Two-term Indianapolis mayor and retired Marine officer

The mayor’s office is always in the spotlight. From crisis communications to spearheading the media relations for our $2 billion water transfer with Citizens Energy Group, Robert’s counsel always proved strong, smart, and cognizant of what we needed to say and what the media needed to hear. In fact, I still engage Robert in my private consulting work.

Bill Benner
Pacers Sports and Entertainment
Former Senior Vice President of Corporate, Community, and Public Relations

During my tenure at Pacers Sports & Entertainment, it’s been my pleasure to work with Robert Vane on complex public funding issues. I’ve found Robert to be level-headed, strategic, creative and straightforward. Over the years he has created solid, professional relationships with clients, media and on both sides of the political aisle. And his work in the early years of the administration of Mayor Greg Ballard that helped a political neophyte become a highly capable and respected leader was nothing short of amazing.

Mary Ann Sullivan
Indianapolis Public Schools
Former President, Board of Commissioners

Robert Vane has provided the IPS board with exceptional communications support. He has a unique ability to quickly get to the heart of any issue and promptly develop an authentic response. His ease connecting with people is a tremendous asset that wins him the respect of the media, builds trust with clients and makes working with him a pleasure. Veteran Strategies has been an important partner in helping our board communicate more directly and effectively with the Indianapolis community.

Paul Okeson
Garmong Constructions Services
Vice President, Former chief of staff to Indianapolis Mayor Greg Ballard

Robert’s knowledge of how local media operate and sense of balancing the strategic versus the tactical make him an impeccable choice for your business regardless of your industry or depth of need.

Kevin Finch
Two-time Indianapolis TV news director, documentary filmmaker and college professor

Robert has built his successful career on his strength as a communicator and bridge-builder. He gets things done.

Ann Lathrop
Capital Improvement Board of Managers
Former Chairperson

I highly recommend Robert for your media relations and communication needs. Robert and I worked on many difficult public issues together; his steady guidance and focus on the end result made it much easier to navigate the challenging political situations. Robert also worked very hard to get us positive stories from a media that tended to want to focus on the negative. Finally, Robert was also a trusted and loyal teammate to me and the entire Capital Improvement Board and staff.

Mark Apple
Marian University
Former Vice President of Marketing Communications

I’ve had the pleasure of working with Robert on multiple projects over the years, and he consistently exceeds my expectations. His relationships with Central Indiana media are unmatched; an editor of one local news agency actually commended me for choosing the best media relations professional in town to assist with my rebranding campaign. If you’re looking for someone who can provide personal attention, develop a comprehensive communications strategy, identify and develop key message points, articulate that message for a variety of audiences, and get your message placed in local, regional and national media, you need to talk to Robert Vane.
